You can either get free iPod touch apps through the App Store or jailbreak iPod touch 3.1.2 and get unofficial apps from Cydia.

You can jailbreak iPod touch 3.1.2 using a simple tool called blackra1n. 3.1.2 is the latest firmware version for the iPod touch.

Today, Charlie Miller will release details of an iPhone virus he and his partner Collin Mulliner discovered. Thankfully this is no iPod Touch virus, so iPod Touch uses are safe. If you're an iPhone user you may want to continue reading this post.

Charlie Miller and his partner discovered the iPhone virus 6 weeks ago. It works through SMS, so technically it's an iPhone SMS Virus. It spreads through SMS messages and doesn't require any files to be downloaded. The attacker only needs to know the victim's phone number, and they can just send an SMS message that contains the virus. Once the SMS is sent the attacker can take over the iPhone instantly! The attacker can steal important data, or even spread the virus to other contacts. This is why iPhone users need to be very careful. This exploit will be released today, and a lot of iPhone users need to be aware of it.

Apple will most likely release a patch in the iPhone 3.1 update. The only thing we can do for now is turn off our iPhones to avoid this exploit.

I just downloaded iTunes 8.2.1 on my Windows 7 PC. I scanned my PC with AVG and AVG detected a Trojan horse Small.BOG virus. Of course, Apple is smart enough not to distribute files with viruses on their servers, and AVG has given me false alerts in the past. Has anyone else here experienced this error? Post it here in the comments. Please post the operating system you're using as well.

Don't be scared to use iTunes 8.2.1. I've double-checked with another anti-virus program and it appears to be safe. If it had a virus Apple wouldn't be distributing it on their site. To be safe, make sure you only download iTunes from Apple.com and no other site.

Apple has just released the iPod Touch 3.1, and iPhone 3.1 beta 2 software update to iPhone developers. The build number is 7c106c. If you have a developer account you can download it from the Apple Developer Center.

If you have an unlocked iPhone 3G/3GS you should stay far away from this update. It will permanently block the exploit that ultrasn0w and purplesn0w software uses.

Are you an iPhone 3GS user? Are you using ultrasn0w? Good news. Geohot, the world's first person to ever unlock the iPhone, has released a new unlocking software called purplesn0w.

purplesn0w is still in beta right now, but Geohot claims that it's the best unlock out there. Although the Dev Team already released the ultrasn0w unlock that works with iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G, Geohot decided to make his own unlock and release the source code as well. Unfortunately it only works for iPhone 3GS users, so if you're not an iPhone 3GS user then you must stick with ultrasn0w.

So why would an iPhone 3G user need to use purplesn0w instead of ultrasn0w? Many people were reporting wifi, and battery issues with ultrasn0w and Geohot claims to have fixed this issues with his release.

Downloading and installing purplesn0w on the iPhone 3GS is pretty simple. Here is how to do it:

*Note: This will not work on hactivated iPhone 3GS's yet, Geohot plans on adding support for hactivated iPhones tomorrow. T-mobile users must disable 3G.

1. Launch the Cydia App
2. Go to Manage -> Sources
3. Tap Edit on the top right
4. Tap Add at the top left
5. Enter http://apt.geohot.com as the Cydia/APT URL
6. Tap the Add Source button
7. Once the source has been added, find and install the apt.geohot.com package
8. Install the apt.geohot.com package
9. Reboot your iPhone 3GS

The big day is here, it's finally Friday! Today iPhone Dev Team plans to release the ultrasn0w unlock for iPhone 3G 3.0 users. With ultrasn0w unlock software, iPhone 3G users can unlock their iPhone 3G on firmware 3.0. The Dev Team has worked really hard on bringing this to us and they plan on releasing it today, along with the jailbreak for firmware 3.0. QuickPwn will do a unlock iPhone 3G 3.0 guide once ultrasn0w is released. I think I'll be sticking with AT&T for now instead of unlocking my iPhone 3G. Will you use ultrasn0w once it's out? iPhone OS 3.0 software update was just released yesterday. It requires a new jailbreak for iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 1G, and iPod Touch 2G owners. Today is the day, Apple has finally released the iPhone OS 3.0 software out to us! I was able to successfully download it to my iPod Touch but unfortunately had problems with the iPhone. I kept getting the iPhone activation server is temporarily unavailable error. I know a lot of other people are getting this error too because I saw a lot of tweets about it. I'll be upgrading my AT&T iPhone later, but my iPod Touch is ready. iPhone OS 3.0 is really fast, I love the spotlight search and copy and paste feature. You are going to like this update! When will iPhone 3.0 be released? That is the question a lot of iPhone users are thinking about right now. If you like to jailbreak your iPhone, you must also be wondering about the jailbreaking and unlocking details as well. Don't worry, I'll explain it all in this post.
I know some people like to just download and restore iPhone OS 3.0 from the web instead of using iTunes to download. I'll post the direct download links to iPhone firmware 3.0 once it's out.

In WWDC 2009 Apple revealed the new iPhone 3G S to us. The iPhone 3G S will be available to the US through AT&T on June 19th, 2009. You can preorder the iPhone 3G S by going to http://www.apple.com/iphone or http://www.wireless.att.com/iphone.

Apple also announced the release date for the iPhone OS 3.0 software. You can download iPhone OS 3.0 firmware on June 17 2009. iPhone OS 3.0 firmware will be available to all iPhone owners for free while iPod Touch owners will need to pay an additional $10 fee to download the newer version. The $10 fee is nothing new, Apple did this to iPod Touch owners with iPhone firmware 2.0 also. I will post the free download links for the iPhone OS 3.0 firmware here once it is out. You can download iPhone OS 3.0 GM from torrents but I don't recommend downloading that because it's only for developers and you may be stuck on this firmware if you use it. Just wait until June 19th for the final iPhone OS 3.0 release! I will also post a jailbreak iPod Touch 3.0 guide once it's out.

Apple just released an Associated Press app to developers to beta test the Push Notification Service. All iPhone Developers should have received the following e-mail from the iPhone Developer Program today:

As a developer actively working with iPhone OS 3.0 beta, we would like your help in testing the Apple Push Notification service. We have selected a pre-release version of the Associated Press app for iPhone OS 3.0 to create a high-volume test environment for our servers.
To participate, we ask that you follow these steps:

Download the pre-release version of the Associated Press app for iPhone OS 3.0 from the iTunes Store via your desktop by entering this unique redemption code in the 'Redeem' section of iTunes, found under the 'Quick Links' section:

2.

Background Apps on iPhone OS 3.0

Will iPhone OS 3.0 allow developers to make iPhone apps that run on the background? Apple has been restricting apps from running on the background because they say that background apps drain the battery of the iPhone really fast. According to a post on Business Insider, Apple may allow apps to run on the background when iPhone OS 3.0 is out. Right now this is a rumor, but you if you have a jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch you can still run apps on the background using the free Backgroundr app from Cydia.

You can jailbreak iPod Touch 2G 2.2.1 now. The iPhone Dev Team has come out with an exploit that allows you to fully untether your iPod Touch 2G. The QuickPWN/PwnageTool software isn't out yet but Dev-Team has said they will release it in their next update.

How to Jailbreak iPod Touch 2G

There is a temporary download called QuickFreedom that you can download to jailbreak iPod Touch 2G. It's unofficially released by Dan and it only works with Windows for now.
