QuickPWN

QuickPWN version 1.0 for the iPod Touch and iPhone has been released. It's an instant GUI program that allows you to jailbreak your 2.0.1 firmware. It's definitely better than WinPWN 2.5 (which hasn't even been released yet) because it doesn't bring up any errors and it was released quicker. QuickPWN doesn't work with 2.0.2 yet, so you may want to wait if you want to jailbreak your 2.0.2 firmware.

Are you having trouble finding the USBAAPL.sys file for your iPod? Is your computer not able to locate this file? Usually you can find this by navigating to C:\Windows\system32\drivers. If you don't see the file there then you will have to download the USBAAPL.sys file! A lot of users have been trying to locate this file but I noticed that it's not online. For those that need it, I've uploaded a copy of my USBAPPL.sys file. It can be downloaded from the link below.

You can now get linerider for your iPhone or iPod Touch! Actually it's called FlyRider, and it was recently released in the App Store. This application can be downloaded for free (only for a limited time so download it before it's too late). It's a clone of the linerider game and takes advantage of the accelerometer features for the iPhone. I think this game can easily become one of the top downloaded games for the App Store. Download it today and try it for yourself! Use the download link below.

Apple App Store makes over $30 million!

Posted by iPod Touch | Posted in | Posted on Monday, August 11, 2008

Today it has been one month since the iPod Touch and iPhone App Store has launched. Steve Jobs had an interview with the WSJ this morning, and he announced the amount of money the App Store apps have made. It's interesting how sales in the App Store were as high as $30 million! I wonder how cracked apps that people have been sharing freely on the Internet will affect the sales in the coming months. If you think about it, Apple actually made about $9 million, and the developers made $21 million because Apple keeps 30% of what the developers make.

Besides announcing the revenue Apple made from the App Store, Steve Jobs also announced the amount of downloads. There were more than 60 million downloads from the App Store!

Steve Jobs also confirmed in the interview that Apple put a killswitch in the iPhone and iPod Touch 2.0 firmware that allows Apple to disable an application that is found to be malicious.

Do you know about the "I Am Rich" app that was going for $999.99? Steve Jobs said that he removed it because he and Apple felt that it wasn't right to put it up. Well, I don't believe Apple should have done that because developers have the right to put up any type of app they want to sell. Just because 8 people accidentally purchase it, it doesn't mean Apple should remove it!

Shortly after the iPhone Dev Team released their PWNAGETool 2.0.2 for the MAC, CMW, the creator of WinPWN released WinPWN 2.0.0.4 for Windows users.  Now Windows users have the ability to jailbreak iPod Touch and iPhone firmware 2.0.1.  This GUI software allows you to easily jailbreak your iPhone 3G 2.0.1, iPod Touch 2.0.1, or iPhone device.  Check below for the download link.

New WinPWN 2.0.0.4 features:
- Has support for firmware 1.1.4, 2.0, and 2.0.1
- Allows you to resize the root partition
- Includes Installer 4.0 beta 4
- Supports Windows XP and Windows Vista 32, and 64 bit

Notes:

- Before installing WinPWN 2.0.0.4 you must uninstall any older versions of WinPWN you have installed.
- Make sure you have iTunes 7.7, if not then upgrade

Do you have a MAC and want to jailbreak iPhone or iPod Touch firmware 2.1? PWNAGETool will do this for you! Dev Team just released this today, click the below link to download PWNAGETool 2.0.2.

Download PWNAGETool 2.0.2

"Recommended method for updating is Sparkle (the internal updater inside
PwnageTool) or using the Finder to decompress the files, don’t use
command line tools to decompress as incorrect use will not preserve
permissions, just double click the download above in the Finder."

Installer 4 beta 4 and Cydia are both included. Hopefully WinPWN comes out with WinPWN 2.5 soon for Windows users.

Create iPhone Ringtone

Posted by iPod Touch | Posted in | Posted on Friday, August 08, 2008

Purchasing your own ringtone for the iPhone is not a good idea when you can make your own ringtone by yourself! Follow the below tutorial to learn how you can make your own ringtone.

"First, open iTunes and select the song you want to make into a ringtone. Right-click (control click on Mac laptops) and select "Get Info." Mac users, you can select the song and just do command-I.

Get the options tab in the window that opens as shown. Put in a start and stop time. The whole time must not exceed thirty seconds. For example, you could specify the start time to be 0:00 and the stop time to be 0:30 (or anything less). You could also have it start at 0:20 and end at 0:50. You get the idea. Click OK to save changes.

Right click on the song and select "Convert selection to AAC." Even if it's already in AAC format, you must do this. The song will be converted and duplicated, but will now be as short as the time specified before. Note: if your selection doesn't convert to AAC, you must go to iTunes--Preferences--Advanced--Importing and select "AAC Encoder" in the box next to "Import Using:".

Select the clipped song and export it from your library. On Mac, you can just drag it onto the desktop, but I don't know if Windows people can do this or not. You may have to export it via the File menu (File--Export).

Change the extension of the exported song to ".m4r" -- it should have been ".m4a" before. In both cases, the quotes are not actually in the extension--a song may be called Mozart.m4r. On Mac, your system will warn you about changing a file extension, but don't worry--nothing bad will happen.

Go to File--Import (or just do command-shift-O on Mac, and yes, that's the letter "O") and import the song. It should automatically go into the ringtones section of iTunes since this is the extension ringtones use.

Next time you sync your iPhone, your new ringtone should sync right over. To use it, go to the home screen, then Settings--Sounds--Ringtone and it should be right at the top under the word "Custom."

Posted by iPod Touch | Posted in | Posted on Friday, August 08, 2008

Today Apple released iPhone firmware 2.1 Beta 3 for developers. If you are a developer, you should have gotten the following e-mail:
"iPhone OS 2.1 beta 3 is now available and is to be used for testing only. View the Pre-Installation Advisory for iPhone OS 2.1 beta 3, Readme, and Release Notes before installing the new versions of the iPhone OS and SDK. As a reminder, pre-release software is Confidential Information and is subject to the terms outlined in your Registered iPhone Developer Terms and Conditions with Apple."

This iPhone firmware cannot be restored back to any other firmwares, but you can restore it to before 2.0 by putting your iPhone in DFU mode.

jailbreak ipod touch 2.0.1
As I mentiond in my other post, currently there is no way to jailbreak iPod Touch 2.0.1 firmware. iPhone-Dev has come up with a solution, but they have not yet released it. CMW at WinPWN is also developing WinPWN 2.5 which will give you the capabilities to jailbreak the newer firmware. For now just stay with your current iPod Touch 2.0 firmware! If you scroll down below, you'll see some screenshots of WinPWN 2.5, which I hope comes out soon.

iPod Touch 2.0.1 and iPhone firmware 2.0.1 were recently released today. You can download them by launching iTunes and clicking the Update button. However, I advise staying away from updating to 2.0.1 for right now because WinPwn 2.5 does NOT support jailbreaking iPod Touch firmware 2.0.1 or iPhone firmware 2.0.1. This update includes bug fixes, according to the description. Some things I noticed during the installation: Safari pages load faster, iTunes backup is faster, entering in the passcode is quicker.

It's worth it upgrading, but for those who like to jailbreak, you'll have to wait until WinPWN 2.5 is out.
