How to Add iPod Touch videos to your iTouch

Do you want iPod Touch videos? It's actually simple to add a video to your iPod Touch. Yes you can launch the YouTube application and find whatever video you're looking for over there, but do you want to actually download that video from YouTube so you can view it any time without a WiFi connection? For this you will need to download an application called MXTube. Launch the Cydia application on your jailbroken iPod Touch and search for "MXTube". Download and install this app. Once you launch it you will be able to search through YouTube videos and download any YouTube videos to your iPod Touch. It's really simple to use this application and I've found it really helpful for downloading videos that I can watch later when I'm traveling.

App Store Policy Change

Posted by iPod Touch | Posted in | Posted on Monday, September 29, 2008

To the delight of all, but especially for developers, Apple has released the software review of EU policy to require that the fact that the application in question before the publication of an audit and opinion. There was a large number of articles on how this was not only harmful to consumers, but for developers of applications, such as those from a LiteNiteSoft.

Therefore, it would be the development of the iPhone App Store in the short and long term. This was again at the beginning of the month of July, but better late than never.

Tuaw has more information about this revision review of EU policies from Apple:

Since its inception in July, just a process of review was one of constant complaints or inquiries from the App Store. The old procedure, which is the same as the current policy of podcasts, movies, TV shows and music, to check who applcation, regardless of whether this person had purchased the application or not. The result is often that you expect: 100 Comments Kvetching on prices, even from people who made the request. This is not just for the developer, and it is unfair to potential buyers.

iTunes Censors keyword "Jailbreak"

iTunes is censoring the keyword "Jailbreak" or "Jailbreaking". Try writing that in one of your iTunes App Reviews, and you'll be censored. Looks like they were crazy not to censor it in the title as well!

QuickPWN version 1.0 for the iPod Touch and iPhone has been released. It's an instant GUI program that allows you to jailbreak your 2.0.1 firmware. It's definitely better than WinPWN 2.5 (which hasn't even been released yet) because it doesn't bring up any errors and it was released quicker. QuickPWN doesn't work with 2.0.2 yet, so you may want to wait if you want to jailbreak your 2.0.2 firmware.

Apple App Store makes over $30 million!

Posted by iPod Touch | Posted in | Posted on Monday, August 11, 2008

Today it has been one month since the iPod Touch and iPhone App Store has launched. Steve Jobs had an interview with the WSJ this morning, and he announced the amount of money the App Store apps have made. It's interesting how sales in the App Store were as high as $30 million! I wonder how cracked apps that people have been sharing freely on the Internet will affect the sales in the coming months. If you think about it, Apple actually made about $9 million, and the developers made $21 million because Apple keeps 30% of what the developers make.

Besides announcing the revenue Apple made from the App Store, Steve Jobs also announced the amount of downloads. There were more than 60 million downloads from the App Store!

Steve Jobs also confirmed in the interview that Apple put a killswitch in the iPhone and iPod Touch 2.0 firmware that allows Apple to disable an application that is found to be malicious.

Do you know about the "I Am Rich" app that was going for $999.99? Steve Jobs said that he removed it because he and Apple felt that it wasn't right to put it up. Well, I don't believe Apple should have done that because developers have the right to put up any type of app they want to sell. Just because 8 people accidentally purchase it, it doesn't mean Apple should remove it!

Create iPhone Ringtone

Posted by iPod Touch | Posted in | Posted on Friday, August 08, 2008

Purchasing your own ringtone for the iPhone is not a good idea when you can make your own ringtone by yourself! Follow the below tutorial to learn how you can make your own ringtone.

"First, open iTunes and select the song you want to make into a ringtone. Right-click (control click on Mac laptops) and select "Get Info." Mac users, you can select the song and just do command-I.

Get the options tab in the window that opens as shown. Put in a start and stop time. The whole time must not exceed thirty seconds. For example, you could specify the start time to be 0:00 and the stop time to be 0:30 (or anything less). You could also have it start at 0:20 and end at 0:50. You get the idea. Click OK to save changes.

Right click on the song and select "Convert selection to AAC." Even if it's already in AAC format, you must do this. The song will be converted and duplicated, but will now be as short as the time specified before. Note: if your selection doesn't convert to AAC, you must go to iTunes--Preferences--Advanced--Importing and select "AAC Encoder" in the box next to "Import Using:".

Select the clipped song and export it from your library. On Mac, you can just drag it onto the desktop, but I don't know if Windows people can do this or not. You may have to export it via the File menu (File--Export).

Change the extension of the exported song to ".m4r" -- it should have been ".m4a" before. In both cases, the quotes are not actually in the extension--a song may be called Mozart.m4r. On Mac, your system will warn you about changing a file extension, but don't worry--nothing bad will happen.

Go to File--Import (or just do command-shift-O on Mac, and yes, that's the letter "O") and import the song. It should automatically go into the ringtones section of iTunes since this is the extension ringtones use.

Next time you sync your iPhone, your new ringtone should sync right over. To use it, go to the home screen, then Settings--Sounds--Ringtone and it should be right at the top under the word "Custom."

jailbreak ipod touch 2.0.1
As I mentiond in my other post, currently there is no way to jailbreak iPod Touch 2.0.1 firmware. iPhone-Dev has come up with a solution, but they have not yet released it. CMW at WinPWN is also developing WinPWN 2.5 which will give you the capabilities to jailbreak the newer firmware. For now just stay with your current iPod Touch 2.0 firmware! If you scroll down below, you'll see some screenshots of WinPWN 2.5, which I hope comes out soon.

iPod Touch 2.0.1 and iPhone firmware 2.0.1 were recently released today. You can download them by launching iTunes and clicking the Update button. However, I advise staying away from updating to 2.0.1 for right now because WinPwn 2.5 does NOT support jailbreaking iPod Touch firmware 2.0.1 or iPhone firmware 2.0.1. This update includes bug fixes, according to the description. Some things I noticed during the installation: Safari pages load faster, iTunes backup is faster, entering in the passcode is quicker.

It's worth it upgrading, but for those who like to jailbreak, you'll have to wait until WinPWN 2.5 is out.

First Copy & Paste App coming soon to the iPod Touch and iPhone

Posted by iPod Touch | Posted in | Posted on Tuesday, July 29, 2008

Phil Larson of Proximity has developed a killer app for the iPhone and iPod Touch that has copy and paste functionality. It's called MagicPad! It's actually a rich text editor that allows you to format the font of the text, color, and copy & paste and e-mail your notes. Unfortunately the copy & paste feature only works in the MagicPad application itself instead of adding the copy/paste functionality to the rest of the iPhone/iPod Touch. Apple really needs to look at hat Phil created and learn how to implement this in their firmware! I hope they will have copy/paste in firmware You can view a demo of the MagicPad app below. It will be available in the AppStore soon.

2. Click "iPwner" and browse for the custom IPSW file that you created. This will PWN iTunes and allow you to flash your custom IPSW files through DFU mode.
3. After you have PWNED iTunes, you need to put your iPhone, 3G iPhone, or iPod Touch in DFU mode.
4. When you're in DFU mode iTunes will pop-up, then you can hold shift + click to restore and select your custom IPSW file.

That's it! IF you don't know how to get into DFU mode, please see the below video.

Jailbreak iPod Touch 2.0 [Windows/Linux/Mac]

Posted by iPod Touch | Posted in | Posted on Tuesday, July 22, 2008

The iPhone Dev Team released PWNAGE 2.0, but it only works for the MAC. WinPWN or ZiPhone may be working on a jailbreak that works with Windows, but it doesn't seem like it will be released any time soon.

View the below iPod Touch tutorial to learn how you can jailbreak your iPod Touch 2.0 with either a Windows, Linux, or Mac operating system! This is not an automated method, but it works.

1. Download the XPWN binaries from the below link:

(If you're a Windows user download Windows binaries, if you're a Mac user download Mac binaries, and if you're a Linux user download Linux binaries)

2. If you downloaded the Windows Binaries, extract the content in "XPwn-0.3.0-win32" to the "C:\XPwn\" folder.

You will find a file there named "ipsw.exe" and various other folders named "bundles", "FirmwareBundles", and more.

3. Find the firmware 2.0 file (iPod1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw)
downloaded by iTunes. It is located in "[User App Data]\Apple
Computers\iTunes\iPod Software Update". Copy it to the XPwn folder located in "C:\XPwn".

4. Launch Command Prompt (Start -> Run ->CMD)

5. In Command Prompty type "cd C:\XPwn" to go to the XPwn folder

6. Type the below code in Command Prompt and press enter.

Code: ipsw iPod1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw iPod_2.0_Custom.ipsw -nobbupdate bundles/Cydia.tar
7. It will take some time for the custom firmware file to be created.

XPwn could crash during this operation on the "start create restore options"
step. You can try restarting computer and trying again, or try it on a different computer. On Vista or XP you may try to set the compatibility mode on the ipsw.exe file to Windows 2000.

8. When the windows prompt come back to "C:\XPwn>" the custome firmware file has been made. The custom firmware file "iPod_2.0_Custom.ipsw" is in the same directory C:\XPwn.

9. Make sure your iPod is disconnected and iTunes is turned off.

10. In Command Prompt type:

Code: itunespwn iPod_2.0_Custom.ipsw
It should finish quickly:

11. Connect iPod and put it in recovery mode. View the below image to see how to do this.

12. Open the iTunes program, and click shift restore, then select the "iPod_2.0_Custom.ipsw" file.

iPod Touch 1.1.5 released!

Posted by iPod Touch | Posted in | Posted on Wednesday, July 16, 2008

Apple has released a free update for the iPod Touch. iPod Touch firmware 1.1.5 is a free update, but it doesn't feature the apps store or the January upgrade that's featured in the iPod Touch 2.0 software. Yes, you can jailbreak iPod Touch 1.1.5, all you need to do is download ZiPhone.

You can download iPod Touch firmware 1.1.5 update at the below link:
Download iPod Touch firmware 1.1.5 (165 MB)

Firmware 1.1.5 upgrade is totally free! Features of the new update include:
- Quicker speeds and improved stability
- Security updates
- Compatible with iTunes 7.7

If you're using a jailbroken 1.1.4 iPod Touch, the firmware 1.1.5 software will not work with the $20 apps. You will need to download the FWChanger software from Installer and make your iPod Touch act as it's using firmware to use the $20 apps.

iPhone PWNED/iPod Touch PWNED to be released!

Posted by iPod Touch | Posted in | Posted on Sunday, March 30, 2008

Today the iPhone Dev team will release the iPhone/iPod Touch PWNED/PWNAGE tool. This is a really powerful tool. It will completely eliminate the need for jailbreaking your iPod Touch or your iPhone. What this tool does is that it takes your firmware, and allows you to modify your.ipsw files to make the firmware work as the way you want it to work. You can develop your own applications and modify the iPod firmware directly instead of having to download and jailbreak and hope it works. In other words, you can fully modify your iPhone or iPod Touch!

You can view a video of how this works below. Updates on the release of this tool will be posted on this website, be sure to check back later today!

How to Block Ads on the iPod Touch

Posted by iPod Touch | Posted in | Posted on Tuesday, March 18, 2008

Lets face it, the Ads on most websites are annoying, and we definitely don't want them to load on our iPod Touch! Websites would definitely load faster in the iPod Touch Safari browser if all the Ads were blocked. This tutorial will show you exactly how you can block Ads.

Note: You must be running a jailbroken firmware 1.1.1, 1.1.2,1.1.3, or 1.1.4 to work with this tutorial.

Okay, lets start!

1. Launch Installer. Tap Edit, and click Add on the top left corner. Type in the following address for the source: and tap "Okay" to continue.

2. Tap the "Install" button and scroll down the categories until you see the Cocoamug Software Category.

3. Once you are in the Cocoamug Software category, tap Adblock and click Install.

Well, if you saw the video, you would have noticed that the iPod Touch firmware 2.0 wasn't jailbreaked in there. But the DEV team HAS already jailbreaked it and will release the jailbreak once the firmware for the 2.0 comes out.

Java for iPod Touch?

Posted by iPod Touch | Posted in | Posted on Saturday, March 08, 2008

Sun Microsystems is developing a Java Virtual Machine for Apple's iPhone and plans to release the JVM some time after June, enabling Java applications to run on the popular mobile device.

The JVM is to be based on the Java Micro Edition (ME) version of Java, said Eric Klein, vice president of Java marketing at Sun, on Friday afternoon. Apple had not shown interest in enabling Java to run on the iPhone, but Sun plans to step in and do the job itself after having pondered Thursday's release of an SDK for the iPhone by Apple.

"Now, the iPhone is open" as a target platform, Klein said. The free JVM would be made available via Apple's AppStore marketplace for third-party applications.

"We're going to make sure that the JVM offers the Java applications as much access to the native functionality of the iPhone as possible," he said.

Besides Java games, developers could bring over enterprise applications such as ERP or CRM to the iPhone, said Klein. Apple's iTouch, which features iPhone capabilities minus telephony, also will be supported by the JVM.

"Once our JVM is on the phone, we anticipate that a large number of Java applications would run on the phone," Klein said.

"We're going to work to make sure that the JVM offers the Java applications as much access to the native functionality of the iPhone as possible," said Klein.

By bringing the JVM to the iPhone, Java capabilities in area such as SSL security could be brought to Apple's platform, said analyst Chris Silva of Forrester Research.

"I think going forward, with the SDK, it takes out of Apple's control which applications are 'right' for the iPhone," Silva said.

Sun came to the conclusion it could make a JVM work on the iPhone after taking 24 hours to look at information on Apple's SDK. Sun saw nothing in the public statements preventing the JVM from being one of the applications enabled on the iPhone, said Klein. Apple released the SDK in conjunction with the beta release if its iPhone 2.0 software; the general release of iPhone 2.0 is scheduled for June.

Future plans could include extending more sophisticated Java Standard Edition (SE) and JavaFX technologies to the iPhone, Klein said.

"It's a new platform for us. We might be able to bring additional technologies onto the iPhone and the iTouch," Klein said.

Developers, Klein said, have built great applications, and until now they have been unable to get them running on the iPhone. Sun previously has expressed its desire that Java be supported on the iPhone.

Posted by iPod Touch | Posted in | Posted on Wednesday, February 27, 2008

iPod Touch firmware 1.1.4 has now been released. I would highly recommend upgrading to this firmware if you own an iPod Touch. Here's why.

Firstly, Audio quality is improved! Yes, you will notice a difference in your music.

Secondly, there are a lot of bug fixes.

And last, but not least, this version prepares you for the SDK applications. Apple modified a lot of files in preperation of the SDK (iPod Touch Software Development Kit) launch. This will allow developers to create applications for the iPod Touch.

Here is the direct download link for iPod Touch 1.1.4 firmware:

Okay, I have received a couple questions concerning the jailbreaking process of the 1.1.4 firmware. NO, right now it is not possible to jailbreak the iPod Touch 1.1.4, and even if you manage to do it, a lot of applications will not work. Fortunately ZiPhone is working on releasing a newer version of their software so that you will be able to jailbreak the new firmware. You can check out their website at and

Official iPod Touch 1.1.3 Jailbreak Tutorial

Posted by iPod Touch | Posted in | Posted on Sunday, January 27, 2008

The official iPod Touch 1.1.3 jailbreak has been released. View for confirmation on this.

To download the files required for this jailbreak click the below link:
Download Jailbreak 1.1.3

This is a .tar.gz file, so you'll need a program like WinAce( to extract the files.

Note: YOU MUST BE RUNNING JAILBREAKED FIRMWARE 1.1.2 with the BSD SUBSYSTEM to RUN THIS JAILBREAK! If you don't have it then upgrade to it. My jailbreak 1.1.2 guide is located here. The BSD Subsystem can be install through Installer. Go to Installer >> System >> and BSD Subsystem.

Why should you use this jailbreak instead of Nate's jailbreak? Okay, this one is official, but what other reason is there? This jailbreak method doesn't make the SDK code malfunction.

On to the jailbreak tutorial now.

1. This jailbreak involves downloading the firmware off of Apple's website. Be sure you have the cable connected to your iPod Touch or iPhone. If you have an iPhone be sure to turn the auto-lock option off!

2.Login to putty and enter in the below text.
# scp -r ./* root@iphone:/

2. Run the script by typing the below text:
# sh

3. Now the device will perform an upgrade and reboot into 1.1.3

If something DOES go wrong, downgrade back to 1.1.2 and try again.

If you get something like illegal hardware instruction, just try rebooting
and it should be updated to 1.1.3.

One of the jailbreak methods for iPhone firmware 1.1.3 has been released! Read on below to learn how you can jailbreak firmware 1.1.3 for the iPhone.

1. If you currently have firmware 1.1.3 installed, you must downgrade to firmware 1.1.1. To do so, connect your iPhone to your computer and wait for iTunes to launch. Once you see your iPhone in the iTunes window, press and hold down both the power and home button on your iPhone. When the iPhone shuts down, release the power button. After you've done that wait for the iPhone to appear back in the iTunes window, and release the home button. Your iPhone should now be in "recovery mode". Press "Shift" on your keyboard, and click the "Restore" button in iTunes. Select the iPod 1.1.1 firmware .ipsw file to restore your iPhone to that version. Your firmware should start downgrading now. Once that's done, you can continue with the below tutorial.

2. Okay, on to the jailbreak! So, if you followed the first step in this tutorial, that means you have a 1.1.1 firmware iPod Touch/iPhone. You must jailbreak this version. To do so, go to and click App Snapp to jailbreak your firmware 1.1.1 iPod Touch/iPhone. After that you need to go to Installer >> Tweaks 1.1.1 >>> and install the OktoPrep. iPod Touch ready for new Applications!

Posted by iPod Touch | Posted in | Posted on Tuesday, January 22, 2008

The iPod Touch and iPhone 1.1.3 is ready for installable applications.

- SpringBoard doesn't need to be changed through Summerboard to show the extra applications in the /Applications folder.
- All applications run as 'mobile' instead of as 'root'.
- Preferences are now stored in '/var/mobile' instead of /var/root.

There is currently no other application available for purchase other than the iPod Touch's $20 software package, but the installation architecture seems to be ready. Apple could release more software for sale, or for free if they want.

To make it easier for developers to make programs with he SDK, the frameworks have gone through many changes. These changes will make some applications not work with the iPod Touch, but developers can update their applications as needed, when the SDK comes out near the end of February.

iPod Touch 1.1.3 jailbreaked!

Posted by iPod Touch | Posted in | Posted on Monday, January 21, 2008

The iPod Touch 1.1.3 firmware has been jailbreaked or jailbroken or hacked, whichever term you prefer! Unfortunately the jailbreak will NOT come out until February, when the official SDK comes out.

Here are details on the jailbreak:
- It does require opening up your iPod Touch and playing with the hardware
- The hacking teams claim that they discovered the code "LittleBear" when they decrypted the firmware
- An Official SDK will be released sometime in February
- A lot of applications still won't be able to work in the jailbreak
- may not work, and may not work either

Unfortunately this Jailbreak does have a lot of downsides. Fortunately the SDK for the iPod Touch or iPhone is coming out next month, so we can look forward to that. With the new SDK, the hacking community will be able to solve a lot of problems like adding flash to the iPod Touch, adding line rider to iPod Touch, and more.

You can view the video below for proof on the jailbroken iPod Touch 1.1.3.
